Each year we publish a printed ‘Best of’ edition in which the best of the papers and articles published throughout the year are displayed. We’re asking you to submit an abstract from any research you’ve done, these will be judged, and the best will be published in ’The Best of JYI 2019’. We’re also asking you to submit photos or figures from your original work to be used as our cover. Below are the guidelines for both competitions.
Due Date: May 15th, 2020
Guidelines
You MUST be an undergraduate at the time of submission
Your abstract must be 200-300 words
The abstract must be written in English (you can be studying at anywhere in the world, it just has to written in English)
Any abstract submitted must be entirely original, it must not have been published anywhere, including previous editions of JYI
JYI reserve the right to copy edit the winning abstract before publishing (this includes editing grammar, punctuation and spelling, this is a process every published JYI paper is subject to and will be sent back to the author for approval)
They must be submitted by midnight on the 15th of May 2020 (GMT), any submissions after this deadline will not be counted (voting begins on the 1st of December)
Submission requirements:
Author name(s), contact information, and university attended (+Proof of Enrolment)
Abstract title – limited to 20 words
Abstract – must contain the following information: introduction and objectives, methods, results, discussion
Name and contact information of your university supervisor.
Graphical Submission requirements:
Author name(s), contact information, and university attended (+Proof of enrolment)
Abstract title – limited to 20 words
Image, submitted as .jpeg or equivalent, detailing the methods and the main findings of the study. This should summarise the study effectively to be understood without any supplementary resources
Optional: a caption of up to 100 words to accompany the graphical abstract. This should detail the importance of the study and the implications of the findings.
There will be a reader’s vote the winner of each competition will be published

Guidelines

Submissions can be photos, artwork or any form of illustration.
Ideal Dimensions: 10.75 * 8.25 cm
Submissions must be accompanied by a caption that effectively describes the photo, providing sufficient information for readers to understand the figure without being verbose.
Examples: confocal microscopy image, telescope image, photo of an endangered species, etc (see our previous covers here https://www.jyi.org/special-issues)
Submission requirements:

Figure title – limited to 15 words
Description - caption that effectively describes the photo, providing sufficient information for readers to understand the figure without being verbose. Limited to 75 words
